Havana Film Festival New York
A project of the American Friends of the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba, the Havana Film Festival New York (HFFNY) presents prominent and emerging Cuban filmmakers as well as screenings of award-winning classic and newly-released Cuban films. This year the festival will pay tribute to filmmaker Gerardo Chijona with the New York premiere of his new film Boleto al Paraiso (Ticket to Paradise) along with a retrospective of his work. HFFNY will also present Q&A sessions with additional filmmakers offer viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the voices and visions driving the burgeoning Cuban film industry.

Tonel is an acclaimed artist, art critic, and curator born in Havana, Cuba; he now lives in Vancouver, British Columbia. Ernesto Oroza is an interdisciplinary artist and designer whose work focuses on conceptual design and architecture. Born in Cuba, he now lives in Florida. Free event, but please RSVP.

Alex and Carole Rosenberg’s collection includes some of Cuba’s finest artists, including Belkis Ayón, Roberto Fabelo, Manuel Mendive, and Nelson Dominguez. He has been a Visiting Professor of Fine Arts at the Instituto Cubano de Arte (ISA) in Havana and was an adjunct professor of appraising at NYU. Free event, but please RSVP.

This is an exhibit of rare Cuban posters from the collection of the Center for Cuban Studies, which has several thousand posters on site. All those in the exhibit are silkscreened, mostly from the 1960s to the 1980s, and most are from Santiago de Cuba. The posters celebrate the annual Cuban carnival, dance, theater, music, sports, tourist sites, exhibitions and conferences.
