In conjunction with artist Consuelo Castañeda’s "For Rent" gallery installation, acclaimed Cuban writer José Manuel Prieto (Nocturnal Butterflies of the Russian Empire, Rex) reads from and discusses his latest novel in Castañeda’s “lounge.”

Americas Society celebrates its latest issue of Review: Literature and Arts of the Americas—dedicated solely to Cuba—with an evening featuring the issue’s contributors. Guests will include the journal’s editors, plus Cuban writers Juan Carlos Flores, Reina María Rodríguez, Rolando Sánchez Mejías, and others.

In conjunction with artist Consuelo Castañeda’s "For Rent" installation, Americas Society screens Guantanamera by filmmakers David Harding and Ross Birrell, followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers, playwright Carmen Pelaez, and curator Yasmeen Siddiqui. Moderated by Americas Society Visual Arts Director Gabriela Rangel.

Clayton Eshleman, the foremost translator of Martinican poet Aimé Césaire (1913—2008), and A. James Arnold, the leading editor of Césaire’s French works, read from their translation of the poet’s Soleil cou coupé and discuss the importance of Cuba and Cubans in launching Césaire´s poetic career.

Corina Matamoros, guest co-curator of Hidden Realities and Contemporary Art Curator of the National Museum of Art in Havana will discuss contemporary Cuban art with Rocío García, featured artist in the exhibition. Katrin Hansing, associate professor of Black and Hispanic Studies, CUNY Baruch will introduce.
